At Morristown High School, our counseling staff offers guidance and support in three major areas: academic, personal, and college decision-making. Our goal is to help you make the most of your high school experience by being an active presence as you strive to reach your future goals. We do this by offering perspective through the course selection process; discussing future plans, objectives, and issues; providing information and strategies; and sharing your joy in achieving your utmost potential, while helping you with your concerns when you face challenges. Counselors work in a collaborative approach to support the student learning process and promote academic achievement with consideration of student ability and learning style.
When you arrive at Morristown High School you will be assigned to a counselor and you will work with this counselor each of your four years. The MHS Counseling Department is comprised of highly trained educators who share your enthusiasm for becoming global citizens who will positively shape the future. We invite you to visit our office to introduce yourself and get to know your counselor.
During your freshman year, you will be assigned to a Cohort. The Cohort arrangement enables teachers and counselors to work together by sharing students and collaborating to meet their needs. The Cohort structure also facilitates making a large high school building feel smaller and more manageable. In addition to our school counselors, we also have two College & Career counselors who provide additional resources and insights to you on the college selection process. Our objective is to develop a partnership with you, your family, and your teachers that will encourage and support you in reaching your academic and personal goals.
Our doors are open to welcome you, and we look forward to working with you, sharing in your successes, addressing your questions, and offering you support. We hope that we can assist you in making this exciting period of your life meaningful, happy, and productive.
Prelude to MHS: 8th Grade Parent Meeting
Take a walk down the Guidance hallway on the 3rd floor to see December's College of the Month. This month we are showcasing Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York. See what this small but diverse institution has to offer . We encourage you to talk to your counselor about this special place to learn more and determine if this is a college that you may want to explore as a part of your college planning process. Each month the Guidance Dept. will present a new college or university, so make it a habit to walk by and take a look. Perhaps your future alma mater will be among this year's selections.
